The day nursery for children of Bundestag employees has been designed under the direction of the Viennese architect Gustav Peichl, whose project won a Europe-wide competition.![]() General view Next to the Paul Löbe House and nestled in a bend in the Spree, the single-storied 1,000 square meter day nursery has room for about 170 children of Bundestag employees. Its facilities include a creche and a nursery for younger children in the southern part of the building, while the areas for the older, mixed-age groups are in the building's central part. On the roof of the building, which has been designed around the needs of children, are additional playing areas and originally decorated "wombcaves" for resting. There are also a number of out-of-doors play areas around the building. The Bundestag's day nursary, like the other parliamentary buildings, will have a low rate of energy consumption, because it is connected to the Bundestag's Spreeside utility network. |
